A About Gladhat
Gladhat is an internet based art gallery, which features photographers,
painters and writers from all over the world.
The gallery was started by Michael Simkin in 2002, as an eclectic mix
of artwork, travel stories and esoteric ideas. It went through a couple
of versions.
During 2003 Ruthy Robbins created a first data driven version of the site,
which allowed artists to upload their own artwork. We kept much of the
esoteric content, and the site remained non-commercial, but grew steadily
in the number of contributors and users.
In 2004 Ruthy completed the second version of the site converting the
Perl script into PHP and MySQL. We cut out the esoteric content along
with the music, leaving the 4 P’s: photography, paintings, poetry
and prose.
With the help of Laidlow
from Initiactive
Media,we’re building an exciting new version of Gladhat.
The new version features: e-commerce, e-greetings, a redesigned layout,
look, and categorization of the work. Behind the scenes, the programming
is being rewritten to make the site function faster and more efficiently.
Currently the gallery is completely non commercial. However, the new
version of the website will have an e-commerce function, which will allow
art buyers to purchase prints and paintings through the site.
Gladhat has 3 editors, who discuss new submissions to the gallery, and
the layout of rooms within the gallery.

We are looking for people to systematically review all works added to
the site. Social background, education and location are not relevant.
An ability to see what the artist is pointing towards, is. If you’d
like to be a critic for Gladhat, write a short critique of Coyoties, by
Jonathan Sandmel, shown below, and email it to m@gladhat.com.
The dream is to keep adding to the portrait wall until it contains pictures
of people from every country in the world. We will then make it searchable,
so you can choose which images to display.
If you would like to add images to the portrait wall, you are very welcome.
Email your portraits, sized to 80-100 pixels, at 72dpi to m@gladhat.com.
Remember to include the following information saved in the filename of
the picture: the name of the person shown in the photo (if known), their
nationality (if known) and the place and country the picture was taken
in, e.g: Sarah_fromUK_paris_france.jpg.
