Apply to be a Gladhat artist.
Can you touch on a universal truth or paradox, which meets our lives?
Do you create accessible artwork, which tells a story, and will strike a chord
in our viewers?
If so, apply to exhibit your work on Gladhat, by filling out this application
form.
But first, there are a few points you need to know about both applying and
exhibiting your work on Gladhat. These are listed below, and then explained:
- Information and files you need to have ready
- What happens after you apply?
- Steps you ll need to take if you are accepted
- Why exhibit on Gladhat?
- The amount you need to know about computers and the internet
to do this
- Multiple media
- More help
You re going to need to have ready a few things to apply:
• Your contact details.
• A portrait photograph of yourself saved as a .jpg file, no bigger than
250k, and sized to no bigger than 800 by 600 pixels, and not smaller than 90
by 120 pixels. (confused? Click here)
• 3 examples of your artwork.
Painters and photographers, if you are sending images, they need to be saved
as 3 separate .jpg files. Images ought to be no more than 250k each and resized
to no bigger than 600 by 800 pixels. If you need help with resizing pictures,
If you are applying for the writing section, your work needs to be saved as
3 separate .txt text files. If you need help with saving text as a .txt file,
The editors of Gladhat will discuss your
work, and write back to you after one week, to tell you whether or not you have
been accepted.
If you are not, of course it doesn t mean you are not a good artist, it just
means that you don t have what we re looking for right now. Of course you are
welcome to apply again in the future.
If you are accepted, you can go ahead and begin to build your gallery. We will
be there to provide guidance as you require. Regards images, this means that,
if you have difficultly, we will rebalance and re-colour images for you, though
we d rather show you how easy it is to do yourself.
There is no subscription fee for exhibiting on Gladhat, just a wish for you
to contribute regularly. This means viewers will return.
You ll need to think about the layout of your gallery, which can be divided
into rooms, based on theme or style. Six to eight items per room is a good number.
If you wish to display a small number of works, it is of course fine to have
just one room.
The works you choose to exhibit need to be especially engaging, because of
the inescapable fact that internet viewing of art is swift and unforgiving.
Note that if you are accepted, the minimum number of images for any exhibitor
is six. Photographs of paintings must be of a high quality for us to accept
them for display in the gallery. There is a certain amount of work we can do
in Photoshop to improve images, but there is a limit. Click
here to read about image quality and here
for resizing pictures.
Sales, publicity, criticism, and communication
Sales
In February 2005 Gladhat is launching its e-commerce site. Through it:
• Photographers and painters will be able to sell prints of their originals.
• Painters will be able to sell their actual paintings.
Click to read more information about
the sales process.
Publicity
Gladhat is a good way to promote yourself to a worldwide audience. Being an
exhibitor, means that you will receive your own gallery space, which can be
accessed from its own address. The address of your gallery will be: www.gladhat.com/artists/yourusername
We have a monthly newsletter which we send out to subscribers, many of whom
are art galleries, featuring the latest works and reviews about them. Click
here to subscribe.
Criticism
Exhibiting on Gladhat is a good way to have your art reviewed and rated by a
broad range of people. You can also choose to be sent an alert by email when
anyone comments on your work.
Communicate
Gladhat is developing a message board system which will allow exhibitors to
talk to each other.
Photographs of paintings we actually put in the site have to be of an acceptable
standard.
Images need to be correctly formatted to be put in the gallery.
For display in the gallery 72 dpi is enough. To read what dpi means, click
here.
If you want to sell your work through the site, you will need to know a few
more things. Click here to read
about it.
Once your gallery is up and running, you can exhibit in other media, but for
now please apply for one medium.
We appreciate that it takes an effort to get everything ready.
If you have any questions, most things are answered in the Help
section, otherwise you are welcome to write to Michael, m@gladhat.com.
